7:00 PM CST
Old Armory Theatre

Please use the downstairs entrance.
Remember, two audition dates are provided for scheduling convenience, however only one date needs to be attended. Check out the synopsis/character list below for further details or rent the classic film of the same name. All actors and actresses auditioning will be asked to do a cold reading of a scene directly from the script at auditions, no need to prepare a monologue. The cast for A Christmas Story includes: 2 adult men, 2 adult women, 5 boys (actors ages 7-12), and 2 girls (actors ages 7-12). The child actors will be portraying 8-9 years old characters.
Character List:
Narrator (Adult Ralphie) – The adult Ralphie, who narrates the play and (unlike the movie) is seen by the audience throughout the play. This is a most demanding role since the actor is onstage throughout the show and must relate to the audience for the duration.
Ralphie – This show centers on Ralphie’s over-active imagination and his obsession with receiving a genuine Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas. Even though all the adults in his life tell him he will shoot his eye out!
Mrs. Parker – Ralphie and Randy’s mother, who holds the family together and although she does not speak as if she is very bright, her wisdom is obvious.
The Old Man (Mr. Parker) – Ralphie and Randy’s father who avoids conflict and relies on his wife to smooth out any family conflicts. He wins a leg lamp which he insists on displaying in the front window, to his wife’s embarrassment.
Randy Parker – Ralphie’s little brother who refuses to eat dinner, much to the chigrin of his mother. This character is on stage regularly, with relatively few lines, but they need to be delivered with great timing. If done well, Randy steals several scenes.
Miss Shields – A schoolteacher
Flick – This role is expanded from the movie. Flick is a friend of Ralphie, if something bad happens to one of the boys, more than likely it happens to Flick.
Schwartz – Also a friend of Ralphie, if someone is blamed for something bad that happens, more than likely it will be Schwartz.
Esther Jane – Has a crush on Ralphie.
Helen – She is extremely smart and the only child not afraid of Scut Farkus.
Scut Farkus – He is the local bully.
Plot Summary:
Ralphie, a young boy growing up in the '40's, dreams of owning a Red Rider BB gun. He sets out to convince the world this is the perfect gift. But along the way, he runs into opposition from his parents, his teacher, and even good 'ol Santa Claus himself, all telling him “You’ll shoot your eye out!”
