Steel Magnolias spans three years of life experiences for  a close-knit circle of friends whose lives come together in a small town beauty parlor.  The title refers to those seemingly frail Southern belles who survive any and all deprivations through wills of iron. The play was made into a beloved film in 1989.  It starred Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, and Julia Roberts.
